McCann’s talent and dedication were recognized at the international level, earning him a call-up to the England national team in 2001.

Coaching Qualifications and Development: Following his retirement from professional football in 2010, McCann turned his attention to coaching. Equipped with a UEFA A License, UEFA B License, and FA Youth Modules, he embarked on a coaching career aimed at developing young players and contributing to the growth of the game.

Coaching History: McCann’s coaching journey began in 2011 when he was appointed to lead Bolton Wanderers’ under-15 team. In 2015, McCann took on the position of Head of Academy at Blackpool F.C., where he oversaw the coaching program for all age groups from 9 to 18. McCann’s return to Bolton Wanderers in 2016 saw him take charge of the under-18s academy. In this role, he focused on preparing players mentally and physically for the first team, while also collaborating closely with the first-team manager on player pathways and development. His contributions have been instrumental in the success of several academy graduates, including the likes of established professionals that include Nat Philips, Zac Clough, Luca Connell, Dennis Politic, Ronan Darcy, and Robert Holding.
